Temporary accommodation

Hotels and hostels

Whilst your application is being assessed you may be provided with temporary accommodation if we have been unable to prevent your homelessness. This is normally in hotel or hostel accommodation with shared cooking, bathroom and WC facilities.

These establishments are inspected to ensure that they meet our requirements. If you have a complaint about a hotel or hostel, you should let us know and we will investigate.

Flats and houses
We normally move families from hotels or hostels to self-contained temporary accommodation when it becomes available. Accommodation shortages mean

you may have to wait. We have flats and houses in Brent and some in other boroughs.

Many are leased by housing associations or by the council from private owners. You will be visited periodically to make sure you are still living in the property. You can use these visits to inform us of any changes in the size of your family or financial circumstances, and to raise any concerns you may have about the accommodation.

A tenancy pack will give you advice on tenancy issues, including reporting disrepair and dealing with rent payment problems.
