What do we mean by private renting?
Private renting is where you rent your home from a private person or from a letting company rather than from a council or a housing association.

 

Private rented accommodation is widely available in Brent and there are no waiting lists.

 

If you are looking for somewhere to rent from a private landlord, there are some important issues to consider before you can decide whether the accommodation on offer is right for you and your family.

Types of rented accommodation

There are many different types of rented accommodation:

  • you can live with a family and share meals with them
  • rent a bed-sitting room and share other facilities with your landlord
  • rent a bed-sitting room and share facilities with other tenants
  • rent completely self-contained accommodation with no shared facilities.

If you find an offer of rented accommodation in Brent and you are receiving a welfare benefit which qualifies you to receive full housing benefit your prospective landlord may also be eligible to receive a deposit guarantee from the council.
