Marriage and civil partnership venues
Registering a place of worship
You can apply to us to have a building in Brent recognised as a place of worship.
The person who acts as 'minister' must complete two copies of form 76 and send it to us along with a floor plan showing which rooms will be used. We also need to know the times when the building will be used for worship. A cheque or postal order for £28 should be made payable to Brent Council.
To make a place of worship somewhere where marriages can take place, a form 78 should be completed. Twenty people who normally worship at the building and want it to become a venue for marriages must sign the form. A cheque or postal order for £120 should be made payable to Brent Council.
We send the information to the General Register Office (GRO), for approval. We will write and let you know when you have been successful and advertise the building as a place of worship in the local newspaper.
If a place of worship becomes unused or another minister takes over a form 77 needs to be completed. The building then needs to be re-registered as a new place of worship. If however, a building is demolished and then rebuilt no re-registration is required.
Send your form to Brent Registration and Nationality Service, Brent Town Hall, Forty Lane, Wembley, HA9 9HD.
