The Wild Ones - The Ace Cafe and youth culture: 1955 - 65 exhibition at Brent Museum will look at 1950-60s youth culture,
using the Ace Cafe as the central hub between the different themes.
The exhibition will explore the cultural changes that occurred in the 1950-60s; in particular how young people broke away from their parents’ lifestyle, which they felt was conservative and restrictive, to a new fast-moving age. The exhibition will look at fashion, music, movies, motorbikes and at the Ace's own significance as a focal point.
The exhibition will be made up of information panels, iconic photographic images, and objects from the 1950-60s giving a snapshot of the lifestyle of young adults at the time. There will also be a table with related activities for children, who we hope will also enjoy the exhibition.
Complementing the exhibition will be a programme of events and activities, such as creating your own logo and printing it onto a T-shirt, 1950-60s cuisine tasters, an opportunity to Meet Elvis, a motorbike safety course and much more. Event and activities time and dates will be confirmed later, so please check the website for regular updates.
There is also a Ace Memories weblog site, which you can get to on this link
Ace Memories
. Here you can read other people's stories and memories of their time at the Ace and other bike stories. You can also email in your own stories to be posted on the website. Please send your stories to
ace.memories@brent.gov.uk
and include your name if you dare!
The exhibition will open to the public on Tuesday, 10th April 2007 and close on Sunday, 9th September 2007.
We hope that you’ll be able to come along, enjoy the exhibition and see what it’s all about.
