The Government has asked us to plan for new homes to meet the demands of population growth and a shortage of accommodation.
Why Alperton?
We have identified Alperton, and in particular the land adjoining the canal, as a growth area. As well as providing new homes, we believe that there is an opportunity to substantially renew and improve business and employment opportunities. We want to open up the canal for local people, and make it a place to visit and enjoy.
We need to plan ahead to make sure the environmental impact, and the pressures upon roads, schools, parks and health facilities of the new developments and regeneration, are minimised.
Consultation
We ran a series of informal consultation sessions over the summer of 2009 and have spoken to residents, businesses and land owners to explore ideas of how this growth should happen. We have considered how to improve the area and have explored the real priorities for change in the neighbourhood.
The consultation has helped us develop a vision for what Alperton could look and feel like in the future. A first draft of the vision document for Alperton was produced in September 2009 and consultation on this document will then inform a Masterplan for the area.
The Masterplan itself will be developed over the next ten months and statutory consultation on this document is due to take place in late summer 2010.
