Word Up! A celebration of books and reading 2011 replaces the 2010 Black History Month programme.

Brent Black History Month was a fun, friendly, family festival that celebrated black history and culture in all Brent libraries, Brent Museum and Brent Archives in the month of October.

Highlights of the Black History 2010 programme included:

  • Alex Pascall, broadcaster and media personality in conversation with former England football star Luther Blissett
  • readings by Precious Williams, author of Precious: A True Story, and Monique Roffey, author of The White Woman on the Green Bicycle
  • talks on Bob Marley and World War One officer Walter Tull
  • appearances by writer, comedian, actor and The Real McCoy star Felix Dexter and Malcolm Frederick, of '80s comedy No Problem.
