2012 Olympics in Brent

Brent and the 2012 Olympic Challenge

 

Reflecting the political priority given to the Olympic Games, Brent has nominated Councillor Alan Mendoza as the Lead member for the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2012. 

 

Councillor Alan MendozaCouncillor Mendoza introduces the 2012 Action Plan and is keen to stress:

 "I hope that Brent's residents, their families and our local businesses will take advantage of and benefit from the many sporting and cultural activities being organised and get involved - not just as spectators but as participants."

In order for local people to maximise the benefits of the London Olympic Games, Brent has set up an exciting programme of cultural events and sporting activities linked to the 2012 agenda.  The '2012 Action Plan' has identified a number of key aims for the borough with the following key theme groups:

 2012 Taster sessions - running demo

  • Business and skills - includes supporting local businesses and the Personal Best Volunteer Programme.
  • Young learners - includes engaging schools, youth groups and Brent Youth Parliament in Olympic Challenge events.
  • Sport and health -promoting a wealth of sporting activities for all ages - from running marathons, walking to Beijing and Olympic sports trials. 
  • Culture and events - includes historical Olympic projects and hosting combined cultural dance, music, street entertainment and sporting events.
