We are building a Civic Centre within the Wembley regeneration area, opposite Wembley Stadium and Wembley Arena.
The new building will save money by producing efficiency savings achieved by moving out of redundant buildings, reducing maintenance and upgrading costs of current buildings. Savings will also come from most staff working in one main location, meaning less travel between buildings.
Hopkins Architects, internationally renowned for designing sustainable buildings, have been appointed to design and deliver the building and it is anticipated that the building will be ready for occupation by the middle of 2013.
Project background
The proposal for a new Civic Centre for Brent was included in the Our vision for Wembley (.pdf, 367Kb) document, launched in November 2002. It proposed a building at the core of the Wembley regeneration area - to be a 'real icon for the people of Brent and a true community asset'.
Feasibility studies began in 2003 and in 2004 and Councillors agreed in principle to take the project forward. Working with consultants, we explored the options, including possible locations, the amount of space needed and what facilities could be included in the new building.
Cost of the project
Current estimates are that it will cost around £100 million in total, which includes land purchase costs, construction, fit out, fees and moving in costs.
The aim is to deliver a cost-neutral building with no burden on Brent's council tax payers. The costs will be met from efficiency savings, savings achieved by moving out of redundant buildings, and the sale of the current Town Hall.
