Business and skills
We are working with local employers across Brent and west London, looking at the opportunities for local employment, skills development and business arising from the 2012 London Games.
Following a successful pilot, Brent has now secured funding to be part of a London wide pre-volunteer training programme (PVP), now the Personal Best Programme , which is designed to prepare local unemployed residents to achieve an NVQ accreditation in volunteering.
Key actions in the business, employment and skills plan include:
- developing links with the West London Business Partnershipincluding links to the 'Supply London' Initiative and Business Link to improve supply chain readiness
- building on the established networks created by the Personal Best Programme to work with beneficiaries after graduation from the programme and provide robust aftercare
- promoting the opportunities and benefits of the London Games via the Employer Partnership involving local employers
- continuing with enterprise support for young people within schools by setting up a trade fair programme between schools in priority areas and schools in Beijing
- linking to the Employer Accord initiative through the existing recruitment and training programme for our deprived communities run
by Brent in2 Work to widen engagement of employers across London - building the capacity of Brent's voluntary sector and raise awareness of 2012 Games
- developing links with the London Volunteering Network to give volunteering opportunities to local people
- work with the voluntary sector to develop volunteering as a 'route to work' programme to link into Brent in2 Work activities.
