Junior school admissions

There are eight Brent junior schools offering places for children aged seven to 11 years. These schools are split into three types:

  • Community schools
  • Foundation schools
  • Voluntary Aided (VA) schools.

Admissions for junior transfer (Year 3)

Parents who want to apply for a Year 3 junior school place for September admission must apply to Brent Council, or to the borough concerned if it is outside Brent.

You can only apply for a place at the following junior schools in Brent (the scheme does not include independent/private schools):

Ways to apply

Applications can be made by completing the Common Application Form (CAF).

If you have not received an application pack contact the Brent School Admissions team.

Supplementary Information Form
If you are applying to a Voluntary Aided (VA) school you will also need to complete a Supplementary Information Form.

Admissions criteria

If a school has more applications than it has places, the allocation of places is made according to the school's admissions criteria.

Before applying to any primary school, you should be sure to check the admissions criteria first.

Useful documents and information

These documents and pages will assist you in choosing a suitable school for your child:

View collated admissions criteria for all the borough's schools.

Find how places were allocated in Brent's primary schools last year, and work out the likelihood of your child being offered a place in a particular school.

See Ofsted reports, performance data and contact details for schools. Please note the distance provided by Directgov uses straight line measurements and may not be in line with the admissions arrangements.

Waiting lists
The school that you apply to may be 'oversubscribed'. This means that they have received more applications than they have places.

In this situation the school or Brent Council will offer to put your child's name on their waiting list. Please note that:

  • your place on the waiting list is determined by the school's admissions criteria
  • if a place becomes available, whoever meets the criteria most closely will be offered a place
  • the length of time spent on the waiting list will not give you priority over other applicants.

Special Educational Needs

In the case of special schools, admissions are dealt with by the Special Educational Needs Assessment Service (SENAS). All enquiries should be made to them in the first instance on 020 8937 3229.
