Choosing a childminder

Childminders usually look after children in the childminder's own home. They must be registered with Ofsted and they are inspected regularly. There are over 250 registered childminders in Brent, so there is plenty of choice for parents.

Childminders can be flexible about the hours they work and they should provide your child with lots of care, fun and learning. Childminders can make the most of local parks, playgrounds, toy libraries, drop-in groups and children's centres. Children can become good friends with the other children being minded.

Every childminder is different so look for someone who will suit your family. Some childminders in Brent are part of an accredited network. These childminders have agreed to meet set quality standards and some may be accredited to offer Early Years Education.

It is illegal for an unregistered person to look after children to whom they are not closely related for reward - do not use an unregistered childminder.
