Activities for children

We provide a range of cultural activities and facilities for everyone within the many diverse cultures and communities of Brent, to enjoy all year round.



Here you will find things to do with children and things that children can do by themselves.

Parks and play areas
Brent has in excess of 1000 acres of public open space, including a nature reserve, a country park, formal parks and many recreational grounds.

There are a wide variety of activities that take place in parks and open spaces around the borough, including the provision of sports facilities, children's play areas, allotments and cultural events.

Events for children in Brent

Sports activities
There is a selection of sports activities available to children all over Brent. The Brent sports development project is currently involved in a number of projects and activities across the borough to encourage youth participation in sports ranging from under 11's to 24 years of age.

Libraries
Many Brent libraries hold weekly sessions for under threes and under fives with their parents or carers, so they can enjoy storytelling, songs and other activities. Please contact your local library for the latest information.

A bookstart pack containing two free baby books, advice, information and an invitation to join the local library, is presented to parents at the time of their baby's seven to nine month developmental check, usually by a health visitor or nursery nurse.

Youth services
Brent Youth service is committed to improving and developing its services to ensure that all young people in Brent who wish to take part can be assured of receiving a high quality of service in its curriculum, staffing and facilities.

Youth workers carry out daily evaluation of sessions and report every three months on the number of young people who have attended the projects managed or resourced by the maintained sector of the service.



Culture
The leisure and culture service ensures that Brent's diverse population has an exciting programme of events to keep them entertained. This includes everything from organising festivals like Respect, Diwali and St Patrick's Day to support community groups with their own projects.

The team works in partnership with individuals and organisations to support and develop the arts and creative activity in the borough. A pioneering online information service, The Seer, has recently been launched.

Heritage
Brent's Museum and Archive service provides a wealth of fascinating information about Brent's history, people and its diverse cultures. Visitors to the Brent Archive, at Cricklewood library, can examine real historical documents, photographs and maps, some of which are over 250 years old.

The Grange Museum moved to a bigger and better state-of-the-art museum at the Willesden Green library centre in spring 2006. It is now called the Brent Museum. You can catch some of the museum's exhibitions in venues throughout Brent.
