Standards for workers in youth, childcare and play are being raised all the time. The Childcare Workforce Development Council (CWDC) aims to ensure that all people working with children, young people and their families have the best training, qualifications, support and advice.
CWDC hold information on the Integrated Qualifications Framework and Early Years Professional Status, among many other issues.
All work with children and young people requires an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check.
Although pay levels in childcare are fairly low, increasing emphasis on good levels of qualifications means that the financial rewards are gradually improving.
The growth of children's centres sees a growth in the number of job opportunities for qualified and experienced people to branch out as family support workers and community development officers.
Childcare development workers are in demand to help local authorities assist the private and voluntary sector with raising standards, meeting the new challenges of the Early Years Foundation Stage and workforce development.
Altogether, Children and Young People researchers have identified £700m of government funding to improve childcare qualification levels, provide new services for young people and reduce youth offending, with a further £372m being used to tackle issues of childhood health.
This funding should see an expansion in jobs available and the development of desirable, worthwhile career paths.
