School attendance and truancy

Nowadays, it is more important then ever to have a good education behind you if you want opportunities in adulthood.

Children only get one chance at school and their chance of a successful future may be affected by not attending school or alternative provision regularly.

It's not only the academic work; missing out on the social side of school life can affect friendships and emotional wellbeing too.

Truancy is illegal, puts children and young people at risk, harms education and can damage future employment opportunities.

Brent Education Welfare Service works with schools, parents and students to prevent unnecessary absence and to help ensure that children and young people get the maximum benefit from their education.
