Free school meals

Children whose parents receive the following are entitled to free school meals:

 

  • Income Support (IS)
  • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance (IBJSA)
  • An income-related employment and Support Allowance
  • support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income, as assessed by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), that (for 2009/2010) does not exceed £16,040
  • the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit.

 

Children who receive IS or IBJSA in their own right are also entitled to free school meals.


Eligibility for free school meals will not be backdated after September 2009.


If you receive Working Tax Credit your child is not eligible for a free school meal.

You must tell us immediately if you stop receiving your benefit.


In most cases, we will be able to confirm with the Benefits Agency that a benefit is being received, but we may need to contact the parent if more evidence or information is required.
