The council provides a service for the assessment and care management of people who misuse drugs and alcohol. We have a particular focus on working with people who have complex needs, and who may need residential treatment or placement in a structured day programme.
Most people that contact us have already sought help from local agencies including:
We contract with a wide range of residential and day service providers so that treatment plans can meet client needs.
Crisis arrangements for drug users have been made with the Odyssey trust, City roads crisis intervention. Medical detoxification in the Max Glatt unit at Ealing hospital is arranged through the Junction service.
A specialist social worker for vulnerable homeless people is also available to assess and care manage the social care needs of homeless people and act as advocate with statutory housing services. Close working arrangements exist between us and local homelessness agencies.
Arranging a drugs and alcohol assessment
Telephone the One Stop Service or use the online request forms and ask for a referral to be made to the Drugs and alcohol assessment service. Alternatively you could ask someone else to do it on your behalf e.g. staff from hospital clinic or GP or relative or friend.
When we receive your request, we will call you to arrange an appointment to assess your needs.
Not everyone who asks us for help can be given a service as we must make sure we can help those in greatest need. Please read Brent Council fair access to care services (.pdf, 302Kb), and the additional Eligibility criteria for the drug and alcohol service (.pdf, 31Kb).
