Support for adults with HIV/AIDS

HIV can be passed on in the following ways:

  • unprotected sexual intercourse - vaginal, oral or anal without using a condom
  • sharing contaminated needles, syringes and 'works'
  • from an infected mother to her baby during pregnancy, childbirth or breast-feeding
  • from contaminated blood or blood products

Services provided by the council

We assess individual needs and arrange appropriate care for adults suffering from HIV and AIDS. We also provide support, advice and information on welfare rights issues. Together with health and voluntary groups we provide comprehensive support for people suffering with HIV and AIDS.

All information will be treated in confidence and will not be shared with anyone else.

Requesting a service:

  • telephone the One stop service or use the online request forms and ask for a referral to be made to the team. Alternatively you could ask someone else to do it on your behalf e.g. staff from hospital clinic or GP or relative or friend
  • once the team receives your request, someone will call you to arrange an appointment to assess your needs

Not everyone who ask us for help can be given a service as we must make sure we can help those in greatest need. Please read Brent Council fair access to care services (.pdf, 302Kb).
