Safeguarding adults

We are committed to preventing the abuse of adults and responding promptly when abuse is suspected.

A vulnerable adult is a person aged 18 years or over who may be unable to:

  • take care of themselves
  • protect themselves from harm, abuse or exploitation
  • speak out for themselves.

This may be because they have:

  • a mental health problem
  • a disability
  • a sensory impairment
  • are old and frail
  • have some form of illness.

We are committed to helping protect vulnerable adults from:

  • abuse
  • bullying
  • racism
  • neglect
  • exploitation.

The documents below explain more about vulnerable adults and what we can do to protect them from being abused, as well as setting out our multi-agency policy and procedures on the protection of vulnerable adults in Brent.

We want to encourage you to come forward and report abuse, whether it is happening to yourself or to someone you know.

We would also like to hear from anyone who fears they may abuse someone.
