Complain about a councillor

The Council's Standards Committee has the responsibility for considering any complaint that a member of the Council has breached the Brent Members Code of Conduct.

Members include:

  • elected members
  • co-opted members
  • independent members

Please note that the Standards Committee can only deal with complaints that a member has breached the Code of Conduct.  It cannot consider complaints about the Council as a whole, Council services or officers.

What this means to you

If you want to complain about the conduct of a member of the council, you must now submit your complaint to:

The Monitoring Officer
London Borough of Brent
Town Hall Annexe
Forty Lane
Wembley
HA9 9HD

Alternatively you can now submit your complaint online.

Before submitting any complaint we recommend that you read the Council's guidance note on how the Council will deal with complaints about a Councillor.  This guidance will explain the process that is followed once you submit a complaint but also explains what the Standards Committtee has to take into account when considering your complaint.

The guidance is available here (.docx, 145Kb).  If you have any questions about this complaints process please ring 020 8937 1368.

The Standards Board for England's website at www.standardsboard.gov.uk also contains useful information about the process and what can be complained about.
