Brent Council has agreed a Constitution which sets out how the Council operates, how decisions are made and the procedures which are followed to ensure that decision making is efficient, transparent and accountable to local people. Some of the procedures are required by law, while others are a matter for the Council.
The constitution is divided into eight parts. These contain the articles of the constitution, the standing orders and other rules, codes, protocols and the members allowances scheme.
In particular, parts three and four set out the rules governing the Council's business and which part of the Council is responsible for various functions.
The constitution was originally adopted by the London Borough of Brent at our annual meeting on 22 May 2002.
