2 September 2013

The winners of this year's Brent in Bloom competition, which honours the borough's best gardeners and green-fingered residents, have been announced today (2 September).

The judges were impressed by the high quality of gardening and horticulture of this year's entries, which included front gardens, hanging baskets and window boxes. The entries were judged for Brent in Bloom on their design, colour, cleanliness and plant quality and the judges found that many were using excellent planting schemes as well as demonstrating environmentally sustainable planting.

This year's competition had four categories of schools, neighbourhood, front garden and container, and the 12 winners will receive certificates and vouchers as part of their prize.

The Brent in Bloom competition is organised every year by Brent Council to applaud the high quality of gardening and horticulture in Brent. The competition attracts entries from all walks of life including Brent's residents' associations and schools.

Councillor Roxanne Mashari, Lead Member for Environment and Neighbourhood Services, said:

"Congratulations to everybody who took part and especially the winners of this year's Brent in Bloom. I'm delighted that residents and community groups are doing so much to make their streets and neighbourhoods bloom and come alive with colour.

"Gardening and food growing are blossoming at Brent at the moment with many creative and imaginative gardeners and growers in our schools and communities. Thanks to everyone for helping to make the borough a far more greener and cleaner place."
