Environmental information regulations

Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs) increase public rights of access to environmental information.

The regulations encourage authorities to actively make such information available to the public and set out standards by which requests for information should be processed.

Brent Council is commited to compliance with the Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs). To this end, we publish the majority of environmental information on our website.

FOI vs EIR
Like the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the EIRs require that information should be released unless it is against the public interest to do so. The EIRs have fewer exceptions where information may be withheld.
