The last Census was March 2011.
This information is very important to us and is used in a number of ways.
It helps us plan the services we provide including health, education and housing. For example, if we know how many children live in Brent we can ensure we have enough places in schools.
We also use Census information to make certain that we are providing services fairly and efficiently so that no group is disadvantaged. We compare our performance with councils around the country and with previous Census results.
Some of the money given to us by central government to provide local services depends on how many people are counted in the Census. The more people who take part in the Census, the better the services we will be able to provide.
What will happen in a Census?
Every household will either get a form through the post or will be visited by 2011 Census staff known as Collectors. You can take part either by sending the form back in the post or completing it online.
