The Broadband household take-up data has been kindly provided by Point Topic from their 2005 and 2006 surveys. It should be noted -

• The broadband take-up results presented here are estimates and should be treated as such. They may differ substantially from actual take-up, and they may change significantly in later versions of the estimation model.
• Population and Household statistics are based on the 2001 Census with updates based on mid-2004 statistics provided by the ONS.
• Broadband and Internet take-up number estimates are based on data from a number of sources including : Estimates of Internet and broadband take-up by household type from the BBUS Consumer Surveys, Point Topic statistics and research on UK broadband suppliers.
• Household take-up is the percentage of all households which have a broadband connection (includes both ADSL and cable).
• Data was gathered in mid-2005 and mid-2006.
• Data for English counties has been aggregated from other geographical areas and may not be as accurate as the other data.
• The survey methodology has been refined and the 2006 data is more accurate than that for 2005. In a few cases the 2006 figures are less than 2005 - this is a reflection of the greater accuracy of the 2006 data rather than any reduction in the use of broadband. The reduced figures for the City of London are due to its small residential population and a more accurate use of business data in the 2006 survey.
• The high figures for some outer London boroughs are due to their relatively high take up of cable and high number of young families which tend to be the social group with the highest broadband use.
