Elections

Elections are the process used to select people to serve on governing bodies such as councils and the national government.

There are five types of election held in Brent:

• General - to elect Members of Parliament
• Council -  to elects local councillors
• Mayoral - electing the Mayor of London
• Greater London Authority - electing Members of the London Assembly
• European Parliament - electing Members of the European Parliament

Electoral services
Electoral services is responsible for a large part of the organisation of elections including:

• registering electors
• receiving candidate nominations
• issuing and receiving postal and proxy votes
• the provision of polling stations
