| | What is GIS?
A Geographic Information System, or GIS, is a computer-based tool for analysing and mapping objects and events. Why are we important?
It is estimated that 85% of data held by Local Authorities is geographically referenced. We can combine and cross-reference all this data to provide vital decision making information. What do we do?
More than just mapping! In its simplest form it can be used as a mapmaking tool. However, it is most effective when used to compare disparate sets of data, and can be used for consultation, to show trends on any given topic, and predict what will happen in the future! | |
