: Wembley Events Parking Scheme improved

Following a review of the Wembley Stadium Protective Parking Scheme and feedback from local residents and businesses, Brent Council's Highways Committee has approved changes to improve the scheme, which has successfully operated since the stadium opened a year ago.

These changes will further help minimise disruption to residents and businesses on event days at Wembley Stadium.

The following changes came into effect on 1 June 2008.

1. The hours of operation of the scheme will be amended from 8am until midnight to 10am until midnight in residential roads and remain from 8am to midnight on all main strategic routes within the Event Day Zone. Restrictions in some bus lanes and existing controlled parking zones within Wembley and Wembley Central will also have restrictions which start earlier. Motorists are advised to carefully check the street signs for restricitons before parking.

2. All households within the Event Day Zone will be entitled to apply for one additional visitors' permit at a charge of £10 per permit.

3. All places of worship within the Event Day Zone will be offered 20 permits for use by the congregations only. Any misuse of this facility will result in the permits being withdrawn.

4. Anyone with the Event Day Zone holding weddings and major parties will be able to apply for temporary daily permits. These must be applied for in advance by calling 020 8937 4996 with at least four weeks' notice to ensure the permits can be processed.

5. Existing arrangements will continue regarding provision for funerals, whereby households will be able to obtain temporary permits for visitors.

6. All schools within the Zone without on street parking facilities will be able to apply for 20 permits at £10 each.

7. Allotment holders within the Zone will be able to apply for a permit at £10 each.

Councillor Paul Lorber, Leader of Brent Council, said: "These parking restrictions during major event days at Wembley Stadium have successfully discouraged visitors from driving to events at Wembley Stadium and has also helped Brent cut its carbon footprint by ensuring visitors use the upgraded public transport services when visiting Wembley Stadium."

"During the review of the scheme, we listened to the local community and these improvements will further ensure disruption is minimised for the local community during event days. Brent Council is committed to protecting the local community from illegal parking and disruption in the Wembley area during major events at the new stadium and will continue to monitor the scheme's opeartion."

Parking advice for Wembley events
Brent Council confirms that these restrictions will be in place throughout the Event Day Zone on major event days at Wembley Stadium. Anyone who is illegally parked within the zone on event days at the new stadium could get a penalty charge notice (parking ticket) and can have their vehicles removed.

Anyone who lives or has business premises within the Zone can apply for special event day permits, which allow them to park anywhere within the whole zone on an event day.

Any new residents within the Zone can also apply for permits by completing an application form and providing the necessary fee and proofs of residency and car ownership.

Application forms and further details are available by calling the council's Event Day Parking helpline 020 8937 5445 or emailing eventday@brent.gov.uk or from www.brent.gov.uk/wembley.

A walk-in service is also available Monday - Friday 8am to 6.30pm at the council's parking shop on Church Lane, Kingsbury. Those applying in person here with correctly completed forms and the right proofs of residency/or business address and vehicle ownership may be able to wait and collect their permits the same day.  All permits are charged at £10 each and are valid until either the residential or business address or the vehicle is changed.
