: Outdoor art in Wembley

Wembley town centre aims to follow in the footsteps of Barcelona's bustling arts quarter when it transforms into an outdoor art market on Thursday July 17.

The first Brent Council market of its kind will be free. It will take place along the designated cafe quarter between Park Lane and Cecil Avenue between 11am to 5pm.

Seventeen artists from Brent and west London have signed up for the event and will offer a mixture of painting, jewellery making, glass ware, photography and film.

They will line the street with trestle tables and chairs and passers-by will be able to watch some of the work being produced.

Building on the success of the various markets and festivals in Wembley town centre, the new venture will add vitality to the town centre and fulfil one of the council's aims to regenerate public spaces in the borough.

The council is also hoping to successfully negotiate the use of an empty shop as a temporary gallery for local artists.

Flyers about the event been distributed around Wembley and can be viewed at www.wembleytown.com.
