Brent celebrates LGBT history month 2009

12/11/2009

To mark this year's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month, Brent-based independent film-maker, Anna Black will be showing her films at a special evening event on 20 February at Willesden Green Library Centre.

The event, which takes place from 6 to 9pm, will also feature movies from the Transgender Film Festival which took place in London recently.

On 26 February the library will be hosting a 'living book' evening, also from 6 to 9pm, in which

readers will have the chance to meet and talk to people from the LGBT community.  And throughout February the library will be providing visitors with lists of all the LGBT-themed books and films featured.

Elsewhere in the borough, the Brent Museum has chosen to mark the month with a special LBGT history timeline.

Brent's LGBT History Month activities have been organised in association with the Mosaic LGBT Youth Centre which delivers services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning people under 19 and is funded by Brent Council's youth service.

Mosaic LGBT Youth Centre Manager, Lukasz Konieczka, says: "We are proud of Brent's ethic diversity - now we have an opportunity to explore and celebrate the history and heritage of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities which is key to encouraging inclusion and tackling homophobic hate crime."
