Health and safety complaints

If you think your place of work or one you visited is unsafe or damaging to your health, or indeed, others who live or work nearby you can contact us to request an investigation.

 

All requests for investigations about poor and unsafe working conditions are treated in strict confidence and within an agreed time frame an officer will feed back information about the outcome of our visit and any action taken.

 

The type of issues that can give rise to risks to people's health and safety include: 

  • absence of health and safety training for staff or provision of risk assessments
  • slippery floor surfaces
  • trip hazards /trailing wires across floor
  • poor lighting
  • no first aid provisions
  • working environments that are too cold or too hot
  • unguarded machinery
  • poor or no ventilation
  • overcrowding
  • dangerous electrical appliances, badly wired plugs, overloaded sockets
  • obstructed fire doors and extinguishers
  • poor storage of dangerous / flammable subtances
  • dangerous use and poor maintenance of lift trucks and vehicles on site
  • poorly maintained ladders / use of broken ladders /step ladders


There are additionally special procedures for complaining about a food establishment (restaurant, supermarket etc).
