 Local Democracy Week - 13-19 October 2008

Across the UK, councils will be celebrating Local Democracy Week by hosting initiatives designed to encourage communities to participate more actively in local democracy.

Brent is no exception and will be celebrating the week with a number of activities throughout the borough. The week starts with the Get Involved Fair on Monday 13 October from 4-7pm in Brent Town Hall, where you can meet the people who know how you can give that extra 'something' to your community.

Join us at the Get Involved Fair and learn how to become a magistrate, a school governor, a Councillor, a member of the Youth Parliament, a streetwatcher and much, much more. The Chief Executive, Gareth Daniel, will be giving a talk on local government decision making and why your involvement is important.

See the full agenda here.

Other events taking place this week

Brent Youth Parliament Election
The younger residents will be busy throughout the week voting for their representatives. Brent Youth Parliament was established in March 2007 so that young people in Brent can express their views and have a say in the decisions that are made by adults. The 53 member-strong parliamentary group, comprises young people aged 10 - 19 years old, from all walks of life. Visit the Brent Youth Parliament pages from here.

A scheme for online and text messaging voting will be piloted in five secondary schools during this week. If you are a student from one of the schools that piloted the remote voting system allowing you to vote online or by text message, please help us improve our services by submitting your feedback.
