Rubbish fly-tipped by illegal waste carriers.
Residents are responsible for carrying out the appropriate checks to make sure that any waste collection provider is legally allowed to take it and will dispose of it properly.
A maximum fine of £1,000 can be issued to you if you give your waste to someone who is not legally allowed to take it. If the fine is not paid, you could be prosecuted for this.
Don’t fall foul of these scammers as you may end up getting slapped with a fine
Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure, and Climate Action, said: “I know how much residents care about Brent keeping Brent clean and green. Most residents do their best to get rid of things properly and I am pleading with you to check whenever you hand over waste. Don’t fall foul of these scammers as you may end up getting slapped with a fine.”
The photo shows what can happen with your waste if it is taken by illegal waste carriers and fly-tipped, costing landowners and the taxpayer tens of thousands of pounds to clear.
Brent Council is working with the Environment Agency, the private landowner, and the police to identify the responsible parties who disposed of this waste.
