Brent in Bloom 2008

Brent in Bloom is a competition that gives local people the opportunity to show off their gardening skills. It aims to make the Borough more attractive for residents and visitors alike. The competition also prepares the Borough for the ‘In Bloom’ campaign which encourages communities of all sizes to make positive and lasting changes to their neighbourhood.

Entry in the Best Container Garden 2007

Last year we asked you to make a big effort to plant up your front gardens, window boxes, school grounds and businesses and this resulted in Brent receiving a prestigious Silver Award in the Britain in Bloom Competition. This was an amazing achievement for a first time entry.

This year we are asking for greater efforts to show that Brent can be the best in London. The London in Bloom competition is one of eighteen regional competitions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland that make up Britain in Bloom and judges will be visiting Brent in July 2008. We are linking with the Royal Horticultural Society Britain in Bloom 2008 theme ‘Local Roots’ to promote community involvement in the local ‘in Bloom’ campaign.

A new category has been introduced to the competition this year called the Neighbourhood Award. This Award is a new initiative for small, resident-led communities just starting out on the ‘greening up’ of their local areas. It rewards communities making improvements in local streets, gardens and open green spaces. Neighbourhoods may well be, or have been areas of regeneration with challenges to overcome. This is your chance to get to know your neighbour, improve your local area and contribute to Brent being a Borough of choice to live in.

Judging for this competition will take place in the week commencing the 7 July 2008.
