Empty properties scheme

Empty properties can be brought back into use with our help and advice.

Help us to reduce the number of empty properties in Brent.

One way to support our commitment is that we can offer grants to owners to bring empty properties back into use, or to convert commercial and other units into residential accommodation.

Leaving your property empty costs you money because:

  • you receive no rental income on an empty property
  • the value of your property will depreciate
  • it can deteriorate rapidly and extensive damage may result
  • it could become a fire hazard
  • you may be faced with high insurance premiums
  • it could become the target of vandalism and squatting - these can cause problems and incur you in unnecessary cost
  • long term empty properties may be the subject of enforcement action.

What help is available to owners of empty properties?

  • you may be eligible for a grant of up to 70 per cent of the cost of works
  • we can assist you throughout the process of the renovation works
  • we can help you find tenants, prepare the tenancy agreement and housing benefit first claim
  • we offer landlord support during the early months of the tenancy agreement

  • Your next step

Our empty property officers will give you advice and assistance on how to make the best use of your empty property.
