Improving biodiversity

The Government have introduced a number of National Indicators to assess various economic, social and environmental issues.  One of these is National Indicator 197: 'Improving Local Biodiversity: the Proportion of Local Sites where positive conservation management has been or is being implemented'.

While the process of collating this Indicator at the local level is administered by local authorities, the assessment by their officers is open to comment or scrutiny by the local community, prior to the submission of the annual results to the Government.

These web-pages provide you with an opportunity to view the provisional assessment (.xls, 141Kb) for the London Borough of Brent area; and to make comments on individual sites to the Council.

The future
DEFRA (Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) have indicated that the Government and its agencies will be looking for evidence of an improving score from local authority areas over a period of years.
