Ace Cafe wins top prize at Brent's Best Bar None awards

Brent's Best Bar None Award winner for 2009 is the Ace Cafe, the legendary North Circular venue beloved of generations of bikers.


Best Bar None is an accredited award scheme which promotes the responsible management and operation of alcohol-licensed premises in Brent.


The awards ceremony took place on Thursday 17 September at the Wembley Plaza Hotel.


Mark Wilsmore from the Ace Cafe said: "We are very proud and privileged to win this award. It's a surprise and a thrill to receive such an accolade from our professional peers and an achievement by everyone who works here.

 

"We will continue to maintained high standards and work in partnership with Brent Police and Brent Council to improve the standard of Brent's bars, pubs and clubs for all residents and visitors to Brent."

An award for commitment to the London Borough of Brent went to Wembley Stadium.


All accredited pubs were provided with a certificate and a plaque to be displayed outside their premises. In addition, the category winners were presented with a trophy.


The judging panel were Superintendent Simon Corkill of Brent Police, Mark Baird from Diageo and Bill Bilon the Director of Brent and Harrow Trading Standards. They attended the awards ceremony along with the Mayor of Brent Cllr Jim O'Sullivan and Brent Police Borough Commander Mark Toland.


Licensing officers from Brent Police and Brent Council have been visiting the borough's 200 plus pubs, bars and clubs to encourage them to join the scheme since January this year. The scheme aims to ensure that all bars in Brent are meeting current licensing and trading laws.


Best Bar None is run in partnership between Brent Police, Brent Council and the licensing trade, with Home Office support. The scheme is part-sponsored by Diageo, the world's leading premium drinks business.
