Overview of the project

Summary of the regeneration project

An aerial photograph of Chalkhill Housing Estate taken in 1997The Chalkhill Redevelopment Project is a scheme that has been running since 1996, to bring about the total regeneration of a Council estate in the London Borough of Brent, in North-West London.

The scheme is part redevelopment and part stock transfer of properties from Brent Council to Metropolitan Housing Trust.

The main elements of the redevelopment are:

  • Bison blocksredevelopment of 1280 high rise 'Bison' flats - decanting and demolition by Brent Council and development of new low rise homes by Metropolitan Housing Trust
  • refurbishment of approximately 450 homes on the 'Scientist' part of the estate by providing new roofs and windows, along with other internal repairs where necessary
  • development of social and economic programmes to encourage the long term sustainability of the neighbourhood once the physical regeneration is complete
  • development of a retail site to provide funding for the scheme.
