The redevelopment process started in 1992 when there was extensive consultation carried out with the residents of the estate. The 'Foresight' survey of 1992 highlighted the community's concerns and led to Brent Council considering ways to alleviate the problems.
Due to the fact that considerable public money was already committed to other schemes in the borough another funding route was needed. A design and development competition was launched in September 1993 in order to engage the expertise of private developers.
The competition attracted 37 entries which was slimmed down to five finalists. Finally a consortium consisting of Metropolitan Housing Trust and Wimpey Homes was officially declared the winner in March 1994. The option chosen was to demolish the 'Bison' blocks and build new low rise homes, refurbish the 'Scientist' estate, and to generate capital through a new retail development.
