The 1960s shopping centre sits above the railway lines adjacent to Wembley Central Station. The £90 million joint venture, between St Modwen Properties Plc and Rotch Property Group is due to be complete by spring 2010 and will transform the dated shopping centre into a brand new mixed-use development consisting of:

  • 135,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space on two levels (34,541sq ft existing floorspace, 80,083 sq ft new retail, food and drink floorspace and 23,379 sq ft new leisure floorspace) with residential units above
  • a refurbished Ramsey House
  • 259 residential units - 174 private apartments and 85 affordable dwellings which will be managed by Genesis Housing Group
  • a new town square fronting High Road and associated provision for access and servicing
  • a refurbished car park (minimum 125 parking spaces for shoppers).
  • the demolition of 457 - 491 High Road, Wembley and Units 1-11 and 20 - 41 Central Square
  • alterations including new floor and change of use to part of Ramsey House to form housing.

Planning Status

Outline planning consent (reference number 01/1714) was granted on 27 June 2002.

 

The planning consent was granted for the detailed application (reference number 03/3765) after a section 106 agreement was concluded on 13 October 2005.

 

 

Progress as of June 2009

Those 85 new affortable units have nowe been completed. A new staircase linking Station Grove and the precinct is in use now. A facelift has been given to Ramsy House. The public car park is open. Delivery of the new shops and private apartments has taken place.

 

The retail elements on the south, east and west are due to be complete in Spring 2009, Summer 2009 and Summer 2010 respectively. Major high street retailers have signed up to trade in the new-look centre, including TK Maxx, Somerfield, Iceland, Peacock, Bonne Marche, Betterspecs and Holland & Barrett.
