Skip licences

We issue licences for skips and also inspect to ensure licence conditions are met.

It is the responsibility of the builder or skip hire company to make sure they have a permit of licence for the skip if it is placed on the highway (this includes the pavement). It is your responsibility (as a householder) to check the company has a licence where necessary and that it is current.

In order to apply for a skip licence, skip hire companies first need to register their details with us so that a licence can be used.

A £250.00 deposit needs to be paid which lasts for 6 months. This will be taken in case any damage is made to the public highway.

To register your details please call us on 0208 937 5093.  You will then be asked to fax in a form to us.

  • once the skip company has been registered we will then be able to able to issue skip licences to them.

From 01 April 2007 we charge £17 for a two week skip licence. If you need to put your skip in a controlled parking bay you will need to pay an extra £10 per day.

Skip licences are generally valid for 14 days/ 2 weeks but can be renewed.

Once the site has been inspected by us, we will issue a licence to the builder or skip hire company within three working days, if appropriate.

We will:
  • respond within 48hours to complaints of skips that are not being used properly and
  • use our powers of enforcement against anyone who persistently refuses to meet conditions of the licence.

You can help by:
  • ensuring that your builders or skip hire company have applied for a skip licence.

Please remember only skip hire companies should apply for skip licences.
