Fly-poster removal
Keeping the highways clear of litter, street furniture clean and property free of graffiti is a responsibility shared by the council, residents and all who use our services.
We want you to feel good about the area you live and work in. We aim to provide good quality streets which are free from litter and other nuisance, easy to travel around and help to make Brent a desirable place to be.
Fly-posting is a form of unauthorised advertising, in public places. We are responsible for items attached to the highway- trees; bridges, lamp posts, roadsigns and other street furniture. If private property is involved (for example phone boxes or empty shops) then the council has no jurisdiction.
It is illegal both to fly-post and to benefit from advertising through fly-posting. Furthermore fly-posting is an anti-social activity that creates a negative impression if an area and contributes to people's fear of crime. If it is not removed the posters slowly rot, becoming more unsightly and causing litter. In addition, the businesses involved are gaining an unfair advantage over their law abiding citizens by not paying for advertising space.
We take fly-posting seriously and will pursue and take action against fly-posters.
We will:
- remove any fly-posters from the public highway, council property, private property or street furniture
- take action against the people responsible.
We have powers to prosecute both the people putting up the material and the businesses being advertised.
You can help by:
- reporting any fly-posting to us by to be removed by calling 020 8937 5050
