Garden waste biodegradable sack collection
We collect organic waste from many homes. For homes with gardens we can provide a 240 litre green bin. However, some homes don't have space for this kind of bin. For those homes we have a free bio-sack (biodegradable sack) service. You can put your garden waste in the sack, which we then turn into compost.
Please put the following items in your bio-sacks:
- grass cuttings
- weeds
- leaves
- hedge clippings
- plant cuttings and prunings
- small branches and twigs
- tree bark
- cut flowers
- hay and straw (untreated only)
- Christmas trees (real trees only)
Please do not put any of the following materials in your bio-sacks:
- household rubbish
- plastics
- kitchen waste
- soil and stones
- animal waste
- logs or planks
- plant pots or seed trays
- cardboard
- Japanese knotweed.
You can help by:
- contacting us to see if the bio-sack service is available to you
- only using the bio-sacks we provide
- putting as many bio-sacks as you want out for collection. You will need to contact us to arrange a collection.
- leaving your bio-sacks out before 7am on the day of your collection in a visible and accessible place from the public road, preferably on the edge of your property
- not putting your bio-sacks on the public highway as members of the public may drop litter into your bio-sacks and contaminate all your hard work. This could result in your bio-sacks not being collected
- keeping spare bio-sacks in a cool, dry, dark place. Your bio-sacks biodegrade naturally over time. By keeping them in a cool, dry, dark place this should help to prevent early deterioration.
- keeping your bio-sacks away from children.
We will:
- collect your bio-sacks, provided you leave the bags out before 7am in a visible and accessible place from the public road, preferably on the edge of your property.
If we miss your collection for some reason, we will:
- collect your bio-sacks the same day if we miss it, if you let us know by 2pm
- collect your bio-sacks the next day by 12noon if you tell us after 2pm.
We will also:
- provide you with more bio-sacks when you require them
- provide an assisted collection service for people with special needs, for example people who have mobility issues. Please contact us to arrange an assisted collection
- make sure our waste collection staff leave the street clean and tidy after collection
- make sure our waste collection staff are polite and considerate.
