Rubbish bin collection (the grey bin)

When it is not possible to reduce, reuse and recycle your waste, we will collect your rubbish in the grey bin.

 

Green box recycling is compulsory in Brent so do check to see if items you are throwing into the grey bin can be put in the green box or green organic bin.

 


We will:

  • collect your rubbish on the same day every week, except after bank holidays
  • advertise changes to our collection days in libraries, on our website and in local newspapers and The Brent Magazine
  • put your grey rubbish bin back within the boundary of your property
  • make sure our contractors leave the street clean and tidy after they have collected your rubbish
  • make sure our contractors are polite and considerate
  • provide an assisted collection service for people with special needs, for example people who have mobility issues. Please contact us to arrange an assisted collection
  • empty your grey rubbish bins every week on the day of collection, provided you leave the box out before 7am in a visible and accessible place from the public road, preferably on the edge of your property.


If we miss your collection for some reason, we will:

  • collect your grey rubbish bin the same day if we miss it and you let us know by 2pm of your normal collection day; or
  • collect your grey rubbish bins (or blacks bags if you do not have a grey rubbish bin) provided you leave your rubbish in a visible and accessible place on the edge of your property.


You can help by:

  • leaving your grey rubbish bin out before 7am on the day of your collection in a visible and accessible place from the public road, preferably on the edge of your property
  • ensuring your door number is printed clearly on your grey rubbish bin. This can help reduce the change of your grey rubbish bin going missing
  • ensuring that you dispose of your waste (where you cannot reuse or recycle it) in your grey rubbish bin and not illegally dump your household waste
  • contacting us if we have missed your bin


Please note businesses and traders must make their own arrangements to dispose of waste responsibly. If you do run a business you may not dispose of your business waste through your household waste collection
