Recycling electrical equipment

Brent residents have a number of options of where and how they can recycle electrical appliances. This relates to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive.

The WEEE Directive enforces the responsibility for the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment on the manufacturer of such equipment. This allows consumers of electrical and electronic equipment from private households to have the opportunity of returning WEEE. Retailers of WEEE should make arrangements to collect items from consumers. Companies are required to process the collected waste in an environmentally-friendly manner, either by ecological disposal or by reusing the collected WEEE.

You can help by:

taking the following items to the Reuse and Recycling Centre:

  • televisions and monitors
  • fridges and freezers
  • toasters, kettles, hairdryers etc (small WEEE)
  • electric cookers, dish washers, washing machines and dryers etc (large WEEE)
  • fluorescent tubes

Please separate all items before putting them into recycling containers.

Please note: there is a strict no van policy at the Reuse and Recycling Centre. Residents can only enter the site in cars.

  • take your electrical and electronic equipment to any retailers running a 'take back' scheme.

We will:

  • provide a bulky waste service. This is especially useful to residents who are unable to travel to the Reuse and Recycling Centre to recycle their electrical and electronic equipment. All electrical and electronic equipment collected will be separated and recycled.
