Street cleaning service

Keeping the highways clear of litter, street furniture clean and property free of graffiti, is a responsibility shared between the council, residents and people who use our services.

We want you to feel good about the area you live and work in. We aim to provide good quality streets which are free from litter and other envirocrimes, easy to travel around and help make Brent a desirable place.

We will:

  • ensure that Zone 1 roads (generally town centres) are free from litter and rubbish between 7am and 10pm every day
  • ensure that the cleanliness of our streets never drops below a grade B standard
  • ensure streets in residential areas are cleaned 3 times a week
  • remove dead animals from the public highway
  • empty litter bins when they are 75 per cent full
  • make sure that all our refuse and recycling contractors leave the street clean and tidy after emptying your bins and boxes
  • clean gullies (roadside gutters and drains)
  • make sure that streets and roads are kept clean, tidy and free from graffiti
  • clean all street furniture (including signs, benches and bollards) at least twice a year.

You can help by:

  • using the on-street recycling bins when possible
  • using the street bins for the rest of your litter
  • wrapping chewing gum in its original wrapper and putting it in the litter bin
  • keeping business waste off the public highway
  • not spitting in the street
  • not throwing your cigarette butts on the ground. Use an ashtray, litter bin or an empty cigarette packet instead
  • clearing up after your dog or any other animal in your responsibility when it fouls on the street, road, grass verges or park area
  • calling us on 020 8937 5050 to report if your street is dirty

Remember it is a crime to:

  • drop any form of litter (including but not wrappers and packaging, chewing gum, spit, cigarettes and other tobacco products, pigeon feed)
  • leave business waste on the public highway
  • allow your dog or any other animal in your responsibility to foul the borough's roads, pavements or green spaces. More information about dog and animal fouling.
