Recycling paper bills and identity theft

Criminals commit identity theft by stealing your personal information. This can be done by taking documents from your rubbish or recycling bins and boxes.

How you can help by:
 

• not throwing away entire bills, receipts, credit or debit card clips, bank statements or even unwanted post in your name
• destroying all unwanted receipts and personal details on documents before disposing of them in recycling bins or using the green recycling box service
• shredding documents with personal details on them before recycling them
• using the Mailing Preference Service (MPS) to limit the amount of unwanted mail you receive.
