Cycling is cheap, efficient, healthy and non-polluting. You don't need a dedicated cycle route to enjoy safe cycling, providing you obey the Highway Code and do not cycle on the pavement.
Nevertheless, Brent currently offers some 27km of cycle routes, mostly as part of the London Cycle Network (LCN). These offer a safe route to cyclists, giving access to many centres of employment, shopping and transport interchanges.
However, this represents only a tiny proportion of the highway network which is open to cyclists, motorists and pedestrians alike. Our key challenge is to make the use of this existing highways network safe for cyclists and remove the obstacles which discourage cycling. For more information on how we intend to do this, refer to the Brent cycle strategy and our proposed local cycle network.
