Speeding control measures
The council receives a considerable number of requests for traffic schemes such as traffic calming measures from local residents throughout the year.
We aim to achieve a reduction in the number of road traffic accidents identified involving personal injury. This is in line with the government's road safety strategy to reduce the number of road traffic accidents nationally by 40 per cent by the year 2010.
Our road safety programme is approved and closely monitored by Transport for London (TfL) to ensure that the funds allocated to us are used primarily to target known accident sites.
These sites are identified using accident data supplied to us by the Metropolitan Police which is updated on a regular basis. We prioritise roads into areas which may warrant more urgent attention first and include these areas in our road safety programme.
