An annual survey is held every February to determine the footway upgrade programme. This is based on service requests from residents that have been received, previous priorities that have not been completed and recommendations from highway engineers following their routine safety inspections. These areas are inspected by an independent engineer and prioritised.
The priorities attached to each scheme are based on the structural condition of the site, together with the safety implications of the area. Also taken into account are the number of times that the site has been repaired in the recent past, and a weighting factor based on the pedestrian usage for each site.
