Who are we?
The service is made up of several teams.
The Inclusion Support Team
This is a multi-skilled team providing support for children and young people from four to 17 who are at risk of exclusion.
They provide a range of core services to support schools and families to reduce exclusions and improve mental health, attendance and engagement in education and attainment. The team is also able to offer a range of clinical and non-clinical expertise.
Looked After Children (LAC) Education Team
This team manage the Brent Virtual School for looked after children.
Education Welfare Service
The Education Welfare Service advises and supports students, parents and schools to improve school attendance.
Ashley College, alternative provision for children and young people with health needs
Ashley College in Wembley provides education for children and young people in Brent of statutory school age who are temporarily unable to go to school because of physical or mental illness or complex health and other needs.
Access to the service is in line with the council's health policy, which means that all referrals must be supported by evidence from a medical consultant which explains the impact the pupil's illness has on their ability to attend school.
The college provides education to pupils in a supportive environment in small groups, unless they are unable to leave their home, in which case they receive home tuition or online learning. The service also works flexibly with schools to ensure continuity and return pupils to mainstream schooling if possible.
Brent River College, pupil referral unit
Brent River College provides education for children and young people of statutory school age who have been permanently excluded from mainstream school.
Both Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils are taught at the college in Popular Grove, Wembley.
The learning and inclusion resource team
The learning and inclusion resource team is responsible for:
- providing specialist support to the inclusion and alternative education service
- commissioning and quality assuring alternative education provision
- developing traded services to schools
- developing Brent’s virtual learning environment.
